Rip The Runway : When Fashion Meets Philantropy |EVENT RECAP|
When Fashion Saves The World
Rip The Runway: Fashion For A Good Cause!
Last week-end we were invited at the 5th edition of «Rip The Runway». It was an amazing fashion show/fundraiser where fashion and philantropy meet each other for the good cause.
This year the fashion show was dedicated to mental health and the stereotypes around it.
They had panelists, they presented testimonies, social workers came to discuss about their work in the field of mental health, they invited special guests such as Billy Parker from the Montreal Alouettes. They brought the best hosts in the entertainment world, the one and only Malik Shaheed and Catherine Diamond from Breakfast television They made sure that between the glamour and the catwalks, you can have a better idea of what causes mental illness and the consequences it has on people’s lives especially if they don’t have a support system. «Rip The Runway» is far from your average fashion show because it makes you wonder how YOU can do more for the community as well.
«Fashion For A Cause»
THE SCENERY WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD
It was literally what’s the game been missing for a while in various fashion shows in Montreal: the «entertainment» factor. We were slowly getting used to the new formula where models have to look very serious when they hit the runway and the crowd has to stay as silent as possible in order to make a quote on quote «professional» fashion show.
The organisers of «Rip The Runway» decided to add their own flava to the mix. The models were having fun on stage, they were dancing and smiling at the crowd, we saw some sick body painting, caribbean music was blasting through the speakers and the crowd kept asking for more with their laughter and cellphones flashing. THE PIECES MADE YOU REDISCOVER FASHION
They had suits, blazers, lingerie, bikinis, accessories and many other gems for you to come back at home inspired. The beautiful models were on a mission and really presented the pieces for what they were, colourful, with incredible details and the organisers of «Rip The Runway» made sure that EVERY designer has a spotlight.
«To date, they have produced sold out events attracting: public figures, media, high level entertainment, with a cumulative attendance of 1600 and donations of over $18,500!»
THEY GIVE BACK BEYOND THE DONATION
